Autism and Birth: What’s the Connection?
Inducing Labor Linked to Autism
Several news organizations recently reported on a study in the journal JAMA Pediatrics that found a link between induction of labor and autistic kids. For more than a decade, Autism spectrum disorder researchers have been investigating the theory that something happens during birth that leads to Autism.
1 out of 88 kids is now diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder and there are a number of theories as to why it develops. Likely Autism has different causes, some associated with chemical injuries from medicine or vaccines. But other kids may have a misalignment in their upper neck that is leading to changes within the brain.
When labor is induced, frequently the mother’s body is not ready to deliver. This can lead to prolonged delivery, difficulty with pushing and a more traumatic birth for the infant.
As a result of these types of practices upper neck injuries are common in babies.
Correcting Birth Injuries
A recent article in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health demonstrated this type of Autism. The study reported on a three-year old boy diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. He had communication problems which became noticeable at 15 months of age and speech delay.
The patient received upper cervical chiropractic care over the course of 5 months. After the first reassessment the patient’s other health care providers told the mother that he was doing much better since starting care with his communication and speech.
By the final reassessment the patient had continued to respond well and was able to start going to school again and even the teacher remarked that she saw much growth in his abilities.
New research with upright MRIs is demonstrating how the brain changes as a result of misalignments in the upper neck. These brain changes are being investigated for a possible cause of Autism and other neurodegenerative diseases.
